The second cycle of the International Olympic Committee’s Young Reporter Programme has been launched.

The Young Reporters initiative is part of the IOC Culture and Education Programme (CEP) and allows future journalists to get cross-platform journalist-training and to feel the olympic experience.

The sports journalism training programme that will be run during the Nanjing 2014 Youth Olympic Games, will bring together 30 young reporters from Africa, Americas, Asia, Oceania and Europe. The group will include young reporters from China (the host nation for the 2014 YOG), Norway (the host nation for the Lillehammer 2016 YOG) and the Argentina (the host nation for the 2018 YOG).

The young reporters will have the opportunity to live in the Youth Olympic Village with over 3,600 athletes and receive training from some of the top names in the business in print, photographic, television, radio and new media. Training will consist of class sessions, reporting of the YOG events, working in mixed zones and press conferences, and coverage of the YOG Culture and Education programme.

The IOC will cover the cost of airfares, accommodation, meals and full tuition. Professional trainers and seasoned journalists will act as mentors and coaches.

Eligibility - Young Reporters candidates must be aged between 18 and 24 years of age (as of 28 August 2014). - They should be university student studying journalism or young professionals working in media. - As the course will be in English only, all Young Reporters candidates must have proficient written and spoken English

Application The National Olympic Commmittees (NOCs) coordinate their own selection process for the selection of suitable candidates to participate in the Young Reporters programme. On 1 November 2013 the NOCs will submit NOC candidates names to their Continental Association which will then select two male and two female journalists to represent the continent.
